Student-Led Conference on Thursday, October 30, and Friday, October 31, 2014
On October 30, and October 31, JMMS will initiate student-led conferences, along with the entire district. This is an opportunity for your child to share his/her progress with you. At the conference, your child will present to you:
These conferences will be held from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day and will last approximately 20 minutes. Advisory teachers will be in attendance to help facilitate each conference and answer questions. If you have not been contacted by your student’s advisory teacher, please contact them to schedule a conference.
What is a student-led conference? A student-led conference is a conference with parents/guardians and the student’s advisory teacher, which is led by the student. The advisor’s role in a student-led conference is that of a facilitator. In a student-led conference, students lead parents through a discussion of their academic accomplishments, their goals for the future, and their interest and dreams. Students use the work they have collected in their portfolios to structure their presentations. The parent/teacher conference task force has determined that 20 to 25 minutes is an ideal amount of time for each student’s conference.
