Fall 90-Day Plan (August 2024 - December 2024)
James Monroe Mission Statement
Our mission is to teach the whole child by addressing their emotional and academic needs and social development to prepare them for success in college and career.
We will achieve this by creating a safe, engaging learning environment that encourages students and staff to develop their unique abilities, diversity of thought, shared accountability, and the goal of becoming better people than we were the day before.
What is a 90 Day plan?
➢ A plan that each school develops every year. The plan is reviewed at the 30-60-90 day periods to document progress toward goals and desired outcomes identified in the plan.
➢ James Monroe Middle School has chosen to focus on Layer I Core Instruction with a focus on school culture.
➢ Layer I (Core) Instruction is quality teaching that is student centered with clear daily objectives, essential questions for learning, and teacher driven lesson plans guided by student data that demonstrates 80% of students are achieving grade level expectations.
Focus Area/Goals: Layer I (Core) Instruction – ELA & Math & Science
Summative Math Goal - In alignment with the long-term goal to reduce the rate of non-proficiency by half over 10 years, the percentage of students at James Monroe MS earning a score of Proficient or higher in Mathematics as measured by NM-MSSA will increase between 3.5 and 4.0 percentage points, depending on grade level, from the 2023-2024 school year to the 2024-2025 school year.
Summative ELA Goal - In alignment with the long-term goal to reduce the rate of non-proficiency by half over 10 years, the percentage of students at James Monroe MS earning a score of Proficient or higher in English Language Arts as measured by NM-MSSA will increase between 2.7 and 3.0 percentage points, depending on grade level, from the 2023-2024 school year to the 2024-2025 school year.
Interim ELA Goal - The percentage of students at James Monroe MS scoring at or above grade level on the i-Ready Reading assessment will increase 10 percentage points from 30% in MOY during the 2023-2024 school year to 40% MOY during the 2024-2025 school year.
Interim Math Goal - The percentage of students at James Monroe MS scoring at or above grade level on the i-Ready Math assessment will increase 10 percentage points from 20% MOY during the 2023-2024 school year to 30% MOY during the 2024-2025 school year.
ELA Desired Outcome:
100% of all departments implement comprehension strategies and evidence-based writing across all content areas 1/week 100% of the time walkthroughs and PLC notes. 100% of ELA teachers will utilize HQIM materials 100% of the time as measured by walkthroughs and PLC notes.
Math Desired Outcome:
100% of all teachers will utilize algebraic thinking strategies across all content areas once/week 100% of the time as measured by walkthroughs and PLC notes. 100% of math teachers consistently implement HQIM materials 100% of the time as measured by walkthroughs and PLC notes.
Science Desired Outcome:
100% of all Science teachers will implement resources to address skill deficits in reading comprehension of informational text 50% of the time as measured by PLC meeting notes and walkthroughs.
ELD Desired Outcome:
100% of EL teachers will consistently implement EL curriculum with fidelity 100% of the time as measured by walkthroughs and PLC notes.
100% of non-EL teachers will utilize EL resources to support EL students once/week as measured by walkthroughs and PLC notes.
ELA Critical Actions:
● Fall 2024 i-Ready Fall Interim assessment currently shows 21% of 6th graders, 26% of 7th graders, and 22 % of 8th graders are at or above grade level in reading comprehension.
● The percentage of students proficient in reading comprehension will increase at least 5% in each grade level as evidenced by the winter i-Ready diagnostic.
● HQIM (Highly Qualified Instructional Materials) will be added to the 90-day plan walkthrough form
● All ELA teachers will utilize HQIM materials
● All content teachers implement reading comprehension strategies and evidence-based writing.
● Use of Lexia Power Up as a Tier 2 intervention for all students and for Students with Disabilities.
Math Critical Actions:
● Fall 2024 i-Ready Fall Interim assessment currently shows 18% of 6th graders, 19% of 7th graders, and 15% of 8th graders are at or above grade level in Algebraic Thinking.
● The percentage of students proficient in Algebraic Thinking will increase by at least 5% in each grade level as evidenced by the winter i-Ready diagnostic.
● HQIM (Highly Qualified Instructional Materials) will be added to the 90-day plan walkthrough form
● All Math teachers will utilize HQIM materials
● All content teachers implement algebraic thinking strategies
● Use of IXL as a Tier 2 intervention for all students and for Students with Disabilities.
Science Critical Actions:
● Train science department in implementing reading comprehension strategies for informational texts
● Reading Comprehension Strategies will be added to the 90-day plan walkthrough form
● Students with disabilities will be addressed via IEP modifications and an inclusion setting
Reflection Meetings:
90-Day Plan reflection meetings are scheduled at roughly 30 (end of September), 60 (end of October), and 90 (December) day mark.
These meetings allow the Core Team to pause and consider the impact of the Focus Area. Careful consideration is given to quantitative and qualitative data during the reflection meetings, and a written report of the challenges, successes, and possible adjustments are recorded in the NM DASH platform. Core Team members are tasked with sharing the results of the reflection meetings with the staff, Instructional Council, and stakeholders to ensure school-wide communication.
