Counseling

Mission Statement

We will help students achieve both academically and socially. We hope that all students at JMMS can realize their full academic and personal potential to become productive, contributing members of the community. We feel it is important for our students to never accept failure and to be confident as they move on to high school.

Services and Curriculum

Guidance and Counseling services are provided by licensed mental health professionals. Students, parents, teachers, and staff may consult with the counselor on a confidential basis. If a student is not feeling happy or successful at school, the counselor may be of help.

Meet with your counselor to discuss any of the following:

  • Friendships & Relationships
  • Family changes
  • Bullying
  • Grief issues
  • Mistreatment
  • Mediation
  • Safety concerns (for yourself or others)
  • Need for clothes or schooling supplies

Our guidance curriculum includes the following:

  • Academic skills support and teaching strategies for success
  • Career awareness, exploration and goal setting (through advisory)
  • Suicide prevention
  • Drug and Alcohol prevention
  • Sexual Harassment education
  • Next Step Planning
  • Student Led conferences
  • Advisory Lesson education and preparation

We are also available for responsive services including:

  • Conflict resolution (mediations)
  • Facilitate Parent/Teacher conferences
  • Individual and small group counseling
  • Crisis intervention
  • Peer facilitation
  • Consultation and collaboration with teachers, parents, students, and administration
  • Community Outreach (Title 1 Homeless, clothing bank, and school supplies (donations)
