Information
Accelerated Reading Program
All students at James Monroe Middle School participate in our school-wide Accelerated Reading (AR) program through their language arts class.
Students take the STAR test three times a year: September, January, and May. Students’ scores on this reading/vocabulary test indicate their reading level. Students are then assigned an AR point goal based on their reading level, and given a range of reading levels to guide what books they choose to read. Students try to achieve their AR "point goal" every quarter. Reaching the AR point goal is worth at least 10% of each student's language arts grade.
All students should be reading at home a half hour every day. Students should also carry their selected AR book with them every day to school, in case their teachers give them time to read or they finish their work early in any class.
